Dancing, even if you hate it you love it.
We can all relate to the power of moving our bodies. Not only does movement serve a purpose, but it is a means of multi-level expression. Dancing is as old as humanity itself. It has transformed and evolved along with technology and cultures. Dancing is one of the biggest uniters of humanity. It is a form of expression, connection, and communication. Dancing is power.
Dance continues to be a vital part of cultural expression, ritual, and entertainment. It evolves constantly, reflecting societal changes, technological advancements, and the blending of global influences.
It’s no wonder when a brand includes a dance number in its marketing or creative strategy it drives sales. People love to dance, people love to witness dance, it’s satisfying and exciting. Particularly when it feels authentic. Remember this throwback?
Speaking of Apple commercials (and dancing). I forgot one of the best music videos of all time for my last newsletter. Fiest’s “1234”.
Reports show that videos that include dance are more likely to go viral. I mean dance essentially birthed TikTok, right?
In 2020 dancing on social media was something to do. A way to celebrate ourselves, and have a little play time with others, the only way we could. Today, internet dance trends still hit. Across generations.
Why? Because dancing is known to cause a positive emotional release. Before and after the birth of 2020 social media dance trends, dancing has created a sense of community.
Layers of community. From a variety of people following a trend, to seeing a silly video with a relatable caption (making it even more relatable), to learning choreography. Dance within community is used for ritual, entertainment, gathering, celebrating, or even just a fun night out. Dance brings people together through shared experiences and creates a sense of belonging and collective identity.
Dance is a form of cultural expression and preservation. It allows communities to celebrate their heritage and share it with others.
Dance is an inclusive activity that can be adapted to suit people of all ages, abilities, and backgrounds.
Dance is magic.
And dancing is the best method for mood enhancement.
Studies show that dancing is the best exercise for improving mood, surpassing activities like walking, yoga, and strength training. Australian researchers reviewed 218 studies with 14,170 participants, finding dancing significantly reduces depression symptoms compared to treatments like SSRIs and cognitive behavioral therapy. This effect may be due to increased neurotransmitter activity, improved self-esteem, and social connections. !!!

Disclaimer: I am not a doctor, medication is life-changing for many people and we are grateful it exists! I am just emphasizing the power of dance.

Warmly Always,
